Prior to joining the ACLUF-SDIC, Andrés Holguin-Flores previously worked as a litigation attorney for the Coalition of California Welfare Rights Organizations, Inc., where he worked on lawsuits to protect and advance the rights of public benefits recipients and applicants. Before that, he worked for more than five years as a staff attorney at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) where he led lawsuits challenging employment discrimination and civil rights violations of immigrants, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival recipients and other Latine people.
Andrés earned his J.D. at Southwestern Law School. In law school, Andrés externed at Inner City Law Center, MALDEF, and the ACLU of Southern California, and represented clients in Southwestern Law School’s immigration clinic. After law school, Andrés clerked for the Honorable Terry J. Hatter, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and then for the Honorable Harry Pregerson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Andrés is a Los Angeles County native who attended the University of California at Santa Barbara where he majored in sociology and Chicana & Chicano studies. He is proud of his Nicaraguan and Mexican heritage and loves sports, spending time with his friends, family and dog, and is committed to social and racial justice.
