A transborder local, Ernesto Gonzalez is activated by the energy surrounding border issues and the challenges of over-policing occurring in his neighborhood. Inspired to create meaningful change, he worked to learn the digital language spoken by media, business and politicians with the intent to broadcast his community’s need for justice, equality and inclusion. Gonzalez brings this determination and more than 15 years of media and marketing experience to his work as Digital Media Strategist for the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties.

Gonzalez began his career working in radio (iHeart Media) while earning B.A. degrees in Ethnic Studies and Visual Arts: Media from the University of California, San Diego. While pursuing his master’s degree at San Diego State University (SDSU), Gonzalez was a member of the local NBC Universal station’s film team. Later, he joined the communications and marketing team at SDSU where he worked with digital platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Google to amplify the university’s communications.

Prior to joining the ACLU-SDIC, Gonzalez worked as marketing director at Lux Art Institute in Encinitas. Most recently, he served as media specialist at Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego where he ran multiple marketing and advertising campaigns with a strong emphasis on digital media engagement. In his role at the ACLU, Gonzalez aims to ensure that the affiliate’s online communications are more powerful and persuasive than the voices of injustice.
