Good afternoon, Chair Foster and members of the committee.
My name is Nalini Gupta, and I am the policy director for the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties. I’m here today in strong support of the resolution to end San Diego’s use of ALPR technology.
No one should have to worry that simply driving through their own neighborhood means having their movements tracked and recorded. Our city should be investing in the well-being of our communities, not expanding surveillance systems that threaten our privacy, autonomy and safety.
San Diegans deserve transparency and accountability. Invasive surveillance systems like ALPRs undermine our fundamental rights. Our communities have shown up time and time again to voice our opposition to this dangerous technology.
I urge the committee to support this resolution and take all necessary steps to turn off the cameras, end the Flock contracts and ensure all ALPR data is deleted.
Please support this resolution. Thank you.
