Due process is not optional; it’s a fundamental right. Yet across the country, we are seeing federal overreach: warrantless arrests, prolonged detention, and families being torn apart. Local agencies should not be part of that harm.
Here in San Diego, 83 people were transferred to ICE in 2025, nearly triple the year before. These are our neighbors. Every transfer tears families apart, erodes trust, and uses local resources to fuel a federal system that is causing real harm in our communities.
San Diego County has already taken a stand by adopting Board Policy L-2 and the CLEAR Ordinance to set limits and protect due process. The policy is clear; now it must be enforced, without exception.
Now, it’s time for the sheriff to follow the law. End all collaboration with ICE, uphold due process, and stop using local resources to deport our communities. Our community deserves better.
