The legal director of the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties sent a letter today to the Board of Supervisors and County Counsel responding to Supervisor Bill Horn's latest proposal to allocate $20,000 to Life Perspectives, an organization that promotes and advocates a particular religious message. County officials apparently told the San Diego Union-Tribune that they believe this is proper. The ACLU believes that, even if determined to be viable under the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution, the California Constitution imposes strict limits on the County's ability to fund religious organizations, even if the aid is purportedly for non-religious uses.
