County Supervisors Approve Majority-Minority District

San Diego - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved new district boundaries that create a South Bay district where Latinos and African Americans constitute the majority.

The vote came after months of public pressure from the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties, and a coalition of community groups that objected to the status-quo map the supervisors had been poised to accept.

For the first time in decades, the Board adopted a redistricting plan that offered people of color in the southern part of the county an opportunity to elect a candidate who represents their interests.

The Board repeatedly cited the ACLU's data and analysis in reaching its decision.
