My name is Eddie Meyer and I am a senior policy advocate for the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties. I am here today in strong support of the proposed Anti-Muslim Hate Resolution.
Our nation has repeatedly seen fear and hate used to justify discrimination and violence against Muslims. Such discriminatory policies have been accompanied by a rise in hateful rhetoric, which has severe and devastating consequences.
On May 18, 2026, San Diego witnessed those consequences when the Islamic Center of San Diego became the target of a deadly hate-motivated attack that took three lives and endangered approximately 140 students, teachers and staff.
At a time when our communities are still grieving the consequences of anti-Muslim hatred, the City has an important role to play in affirming that every San Diegan has the right to dignity, safety and equal treatment.
We urge you to pass the Anti-Muslim Hate Resolution and send a clear and unequivocal message that hatred, harassment and violence against Muslims have no place in San Diego.
