SAN DIEGO – The ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties (ACLU-SDIC) launches the final track – Advancing Immigrants’ Rights (AIR) – of its EmpowerEd series on August 13.
Through expert-led virtual discussions and trainings, this four-session track will explore legal and community responses to immigration enforcement, the rights of immigrants and immigrant students, and the larger immigration and deportation system.
“As the Trump administration continues its nationwide relentless attacks on immigrant communities through escalating immigration enforcement, record-breaking daily arrests, vicious and deadly acts of violence against community members, and the dismantling of asylum protections, the launch of our final EmpowerEd track, Advancing Immigrants' Rights, could not be more important,” said Nalini Gupta, policy director at the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties. “We invite immigrants and allies alike to join us to learn about immigrants' rights, better understand the challenges immigrant communities face and explore ways to join in solidarity with our neighbors.”
Since January, hundreds of people across the region have attended the ACLU-SDIC EmpowerEd sessions to learn about their rights and the systems that shape public safety, education and housing.
The Advancing Immigrants' Rights track builds on EmpowerEd's mission to help people understand the systems that shape their lives and develop the knowledge and tools to take informed action in their communities.
The ACLU-SDIC invites the public to participate in the free series. Registration is available at bit.ly/EmpowerEd-AIR. All sessions will be held virtually and offered in English and Spanish.
